Teaching Philosophy

From my earliest teachers I gained a love of music, and more importantly, a love for playing. I was fortunate enough to study under teachers who fostered my natural tendencies to play by ear, but also made sure that I could sightread and understand the music in front of me. I take the same care with my students today.

piano lesson with teacherI provide a well rounded curriculum which emphasizes sight reading skills, ear-training activities, and explores a wide range of musical styles. Though I teach primarily classical music, we also take time for studying repertoire from other genres. Students will get exposure to playing from a chord chart, hymn-playing (for those with interest), jazz and other popular music styles.

For those with the desire, we also delve into composition and arranging. Many students sheet musicdelight in composing their own arrangements of popular pieces.

My goal is to teach every student to the highest level that I am able. This level may be different for each student depending on their strengths and interests; but I strive to ensure that every student is working toward a goal that sets their sights high.

The student graduating from my studio enters the world in possession of the skills and knowledge to continue their musical journey, whatever it may be. Hopefully, they will do just that!
